| The Power of the Word of God in Your Child’s Education |
 |
|
By Zan Tyler As you choose curriculum and
prepare to teach, review the chapter on developing a
biblical worldview.
• Remember the injunction from Harvard’s 1646 “Rules
and Precepts,” to “lay Christ at the bottom, as the
only foundation of all sound knowledge and
learning.”
• Remember the power of the Word of God to work
positively and powerfully in your child’s life. Because
we have become used to education that cannot
consider the Bible, we fail to realize what a powerful
tool it is in the education of our children. (This
subject on its own could fill many volumes.) In both
her colonial days and her early days as a nation,
America had extremely high literacy rates.
Interestingly enough, the Bible played an important
role in education during these time periods. In the
children’s book Stories of the Pilgrims, the author
made this comment about Edward Winslow, a pilgrim,
teaching Squanto, the Indian who taught the Pilgrims
to survive in the New World, how to read: “There
were no primers or first readers then, but Winslow
took down his Bible. It was the book from which he
had learned to read; he would teach Squanto from
it.”
